Babymoon 2-Budapest

#latepost

Babymoon 1

What happened during 13 hours journey? I felt sick! I was pregnant, the seat could not be perfectly reclined and my feet were bit cramped. Mom helped of course, so that I could be more comfortable.

She had prepared meals and spared water for breakfast. We had breakfast while we were riding through Bratislava, few hours more to reach Budapest. After eating I felt better and started to look again the location of the apartment and our itinerary.

Where did we stay?

Whenever we traveled, we seldom chose hotel except the rate was cheaper than hostels and apartments. We stayed in an apartment that I found in AirBnB website. It was not expensive that I needed to check and calculate again to make sure that the price was right. We paid 40€ for 2 nights in Astoria Residence. Because we came first, we could get the biggest bedroom. The two other rooms would be shared by other guests. The kitchen sets were complete. They provided tea, coffee, sugar, pepper and even oil to fry. We could also use the washing machine including the detergent.

I had checked their website budapesting before I wrote. The apartment was newly renovated. It’s nicer and more comfortable 🙂

According to the website it’s located in district 7. It is in Pest area and not far from Jewish quarter. Across the street there is a 24 hours supermarket. And if I didn’t false remember, some restaurants are also easy to find nearby. Underground train station (M2 Astoria or Deák Ferenc Tér), tram stop and hop on hop off bus stop are in close walking distance.

What did we do?

I really wished that I could join the free walking tour. Knowing the history of the city and the building would be an extra excitement for me.

According to what was told by other travel-blog or any website, we went to following places:

  • Shoes on the Danube Memorial
  • Gellert Hill and Citadella
  • The Central Market Hall
  • Heroes Square
  • Buda Castle
  • Fisherman’s Bastion
  • St. Stephen’s Bassilica
  • Matthias Church
  • Parliament Building
  • Jewish Synagogue
  • Chain Bridge
  • Budapest Opera
  • Deák Ferenc Tér

How was the transportation?

I planned the itinerary very detail so that we didn’t spend much money for transportation. Most of the touristic places were in walking distance. We walked most of the time. I knew it could be a high risk for my early pregnancy hehehe.. But really.. Walking was faster than waiting for a bus or tram.

Nevertheless, we bought block ticket for 10 journeys. I checked the website here, it cost now 3000 HUF or almost 10€. We used it to go to Buda area.

What did we eat?

Mom cooked mostly. We were on tight budget and cooking was our best option. She prepared our lunch box and also for dinner. Since I couldn’t smell anything come from kitchen. We shopped at Lidl that was located on the basement of the Central Market Hall, at the market itself and also a supermarket across our apartment.

One day, we decided to eat typical Hungarian food. At the top of the Central Market, we could find many stalls and also restaurants that offered local food in reasonable price. The good thing was, we could pay either in Forint or in Euro. The portion was also big. Ah ya..
Didn’t worry about any dirty, it was clean everywhere.

Souvenir

We recommend the Central Market as the best place to hunt souvenirs. It is located in the same floor as the food stalls. Once again, we paid in Euro and Forint. The seller speaked english well and bargaining was not a problem.

As I remembered, there was also a long street opposite the Market, Vaci Street or Vaci Utca. We walked along the street and saw many souvenir shops too.

My mother bought Paprika and Chilies hehehe..

Our pictures will be published in other post 🙂

Do you want to go to Budapest? Did you enjoy your stay in Budapest? Can you share any interesting places there? If it is possible, this city is worth to be visited again.
